What is the Problem with Ahi?

8 12 2010

Okay, the problem with Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) is….once you have eaten it fresh from the sea, and cooked to savor, you are hooked.  Of course, then the problem becomes your budget, and just how much Ahi is available.  If you are fortunate enough to live in Hawaii, and even more fortunate to live on the Big Island, you can become pretty spoiled very quickly,  because, it doesn’t get it any fresher, and most every restaurant and home knows how to prepare it well.

Although we don’t readily admit it, we are depleting the natural supply pretty quickly.  So you can imagine how my interest was peaked when my Google Alerts produced this little item about the future of my favorite fish….  http://www.staradvertiser.com/business/businessnews/20101113_ahi_farms_ocean_lease_okd.html

My first thought…..great news, I can  remove that from my list of what will be missing in my future. I don’t have to eat more than my fair share in fear that it will run out before I do…..Wok-charred ahi is here to stay…. and of course, kudos to Peter Merriman, who has it down to a science.

Trading Places… Prefer to be in Hawaii? Now?

21 09 2010

Does trading sound too “off the chart” for you?  Believe it or not, this is happening more and more in the marketplace, and it makes perfect sense.

One of the great things about real estate is that someone typically wants what you have. The trick is finding that someone.  Most people who want to buy usually have something to sell. Sometimes they just want to move down the street, and some will fulfill their dream to move to Hawaii.

Hawaii, is a great market for trading places because Hawaii is always on the move…..the primary housing market moves from island to island, and very often to the mainland. The second home market is always moving around, looking for new experiences in new surroundings.

This incredible home could be a potential trade for a smaller home or even a great lot in Waimea, Puako, or a resort property along the Kohala Coast. For more information there is a  24 hour free recording call this toll-free number 1-800-588-8564 ext:1507

Sound interesting? Have questions? It’s about making life work where you want to be and now……

Stocks Down? Surfs Still Up in Hawaii

21 08 2010

Yesterday, even though its summer, I wrote about Christmas, but today as I sit at my desk watching the Dow…….I shift focus to slightly left of the screen, and begin to count waves as they break over the reef. Now tell me, would you prefer a day tied to your computer in a world controlled by others to the ever present wonders of the Hawaiian Islands.

I am not suggesting you jump on those Hawaiian Vacation Specials but if I just described your day, you might want to explore the options for Hawaiian homes today…..the options are endless, especially for Big Island Real Estate.  When the Dow goes down, the opportunities go up!  So check out the view from this Hawaii Condo and think about moving your focus just slightly to the left and maybe even shutting it down just in time to catch a few waves…oh and we have Hawaii foreclosures too!

Is it Big Island Real Estate or Hawaii Real Estate that you want?

13 08 2010

For those of you who are shaking your heads and wondering what is this all about, the Big Island, the largest island in the chain, has a real name, Hawaii.  If you don’t think this is confusing for even the 175,784 inhabitants of this 4028 square mile island, guess again.

Personally I relate quite well to this confusion as  I have lived my entire life with a nickname and even the other day my neighbor returned an email from me that contained my legal name.

But this may or may not be an issue for you, wherever you are, wondering if “Hawaii”, which can be any of at least six islands in the chain, is the place for you or is it  the “Big Island”.  Keep in mind, this “Big Island” of ours is really big….there are  seven districts, multiple towns and subdivisions, plus eleven out of the thirteen climate zones on earth, more than forty public schools and more and more.  Now if you want to compare it to the island of Maui with 727.3 square miles or the Island of Oahu with 597 square miles or the island of Kauai with 69 square miles, you will just begin to understand the magnitude of this island we call home.

Next blog let’s talk about how many miles of coastline, elevations and more, so you can really start to know the difference between “Hawaii” and the “Big Island”, so your search for Hawaii Real Estate and Big Island Real Estate will be easier.  If you want to learn more about the multitude of towns on the Big Island go to http://www.bigislandreale.com/ home page and start typing letters in the search box…from A to Z, get to know what we are all about…..
